  1. Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie by Jordan Sonnenblick.
    Awesome Book!
A really good book to read is Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie. In the book, a teenager named Steven learns that his brother is diagnosed with cancer. Steven is already in the jazz band and school making it difficult for him to juggle all of these different problems. This book has a lot of funny moments but a lot of serious ones too. Most of these moments almost all teenagers will be able to relate too in one way, or another. Jordan Sonnenblick does an excellent job telling the story from a teenager’s point of view; He is one of a view offers that can pull this off successfully in multiple books.
Over the book Steven matures a great amount and learns what life really is about and how important it really is. This is a fairly long book with over 250 pages but it is definitely worth the time.
Sonnenblick has other books but Drums, Girls, and Dangerous pie is definitely his best page-turner. This is one of my favorite books of all time and has some of the best characters you will ever read about. I recommend this to all teens and adults who want a humorous story. You will want to read this book again and again.

  2. The Fallen by Paul Langan
    The Tragedy of the Fallen.

Have you ever lost a love one? Well in this story, The Fallen, Martin loses his brother in a drive-by shooting. Martin then goes into a rage that’s not easily broken. He starts to get in fights in school with students and teachers. Now he’s on the edge of expulsion. So read this book; it will change your live.
I personally loved this book. It was a page tuner, and I could barely take my eyes off of it. I couldn’t believe the excitement, drama, and action I loved it.

  3. That was Then, This is Now by S.E. Hinton

    Drugs
When Byron came to visit Mark in jail all he can say is “that was then, this is now.” In this realistic fiction book three kids not only have to survive high school, but also the real world, the streets, the drugs, and the pressure of their peers. Bryon and Mark have been like brothers ever since the death of Marks mother and father. Bryon’s mom took mark in when he was just a little kid. Their best friend is a kid called M&M. M&M is a smart kid who really doesn’t talk, goes to the store and eats M&Ms all day long, and has twelve brothers and sisters. Bryon is to caught up in M&M’s sister, Cathy, he doesn’t realize that M&M and Mark are doing drugs until it’s too late. Mark on the other hand is bringing home a lot of money and Byron can figure out why. What Bryon doesn’t know is that Mark is selling illegal drugs on the street. Then one day Bryon finds the drugs under Marks mattress. Bryon called the cops on his best friend. Mark went to jail and didn’t want to see him again.
I think that teens should read this book for two reasons. One to figure out what is going on around them, and two to know how to handle this kind of situation. Adults should also read this because, they need to know what is going on in their kids’ life. This book will relate to many teens lives. S.E. Hinton writes so that teens can understand.

  4. Wake by Lisa McMann

    Dream Big
Have you ever wished you could see someone dream or what happens in their dream?
Janie Hannagan, is basically a loner, she lives her alcoholic mother who is always past out in her room and she has no friends until she meets the new neighbors next door and becomes best friends with their daughter. In this book you will learn that you don’t read it, it tells you, also about the supernatural and mysteries that lead to unraveling a big drug bust. This book is catching and addictive.
I think Wake is great because it pulls you in to where you feel like you’re in the book with her; you just want to keep reading and reading. It is definitely a page turner. I usually don’t like reading passage books but this I would make an exception. This book is a cliff hanger at the end of every passage basically, also especially at the end where the book starts out with the next book .

  5. Broken China by Lorie Aurelia Williams
Have you ever wished you could restart your life? In the book Broken China, there is a girl named China cup Cameron who has had a rough childhood. She is pretty much alone but she seems to stay out of trouble. She sticks up for what she believes and knows what to do when she gets stuck. Read this book because it is an eye catcher and a book you can’t put down.
I think this book was written as a story. I recommend this book because it isn’t a bad influence. This book is definitely a page turner. It is really easy to concentrate on what is happening. It was not boring. People who want to read a good book should read this book.

  6. Elvis and Olive by Stephanie Watson

    Secrets
Are you ever curious about what someone is saying when they are telling someone else a secret? Don’t be fooled by people who seem boring. Even the most dull-looking people do all kinds of weird, interesting things when they think no one is watching. In this suspenseful realistic fiction book called Elvis and Olive, two girls make their own “secret” club. They easily find out people’s secrets. They find out some crazy stuff. Stuff you wouldn’t believe! If you like suspenseful books that keep you turning the pages, you will love this book!
I think girls would like this book. Boys can read it too, but it is a good book no matter what gender is reading it. When one girl named Natalie figures out something about the other girl named Annie. What surprised me the most was the secret that Natalie discovered about Annie! My mind did not wander in this book. When you really get into it neither will your’s. Also, every chapter ended with a cliff-hanger, so that made me want to keep going no matter if you are were in a car or going to the bathroom!

  7. Doormat by Kelly McWilliams
    The Human Doormat
In Doormat, Fourteen year old Jaime experiences many things above her maturity level. Her best friend, Melissa, ends up pregnant and Jaime gets her first boyfriend. In this realistic fiction novel there is drama between all of the characters, including Jaime’s family.
I recommend this book for all teens who have a lot of drama with friends, relationships, and family in their lives. You can also compare what drama these characters have, to drama that has happened around you. Doormat is a great book for all teens going through to much drama. Not only are there Pregnancies of high schoolers and relationship problems, but there’re fights for a lead in a school play, and challenges in living your dreams. Connecting with characters in this story will be easy. You could be like the person in the novel, known to be pushed around and stepped on all of the time: Jaime, the doormat. You could also be the popular and pregnant teen: Melissa. Everyone has a part in this novel. Doormat was a page-turner. So much suspense and shock for so much connection.

  8. The Gun by Paul Langan
    Payback Time
In this realistic book The Gun, Tyran Hobbs wants revenge. He wants to make Darell Mercer, a new kid who just came to Bluford High school, get his payback for breaking his hand in front of everyone in the school cafeteria. Now with a broken hand, and a family who is very harsh, the only idea is for Tyran to get his revenge, and to do that is to find a gun.
In this fantastic book Tyrans friends use to help him get lunch money from other kids. Now since Darell Mercer broke Tyrans hand, and taking Tyrans sister, that he was going to protect all the time. Tyran has to find away to get Darell Mercer back for what he did.
I recommend this book to people who like action and realistic fiction books. I had a real hard time putting this book down because it was a real cliff hanger, at the end of the chapter, it had something that would happen, and I would think, what could happen next. It also was a real page turner; when I got to the bottom of the page I would really want to turn the page. I loved this book and I think you will to.

  9. Summer Ball by Mike Lupica
    B-Ball Camp Conflict
I love this book because I love sports books. It is a realistic fiction this novel teaches you that you should never quit even if it gets hard. This story is about a boy named Danny Walker who goes to a basketball camp and gets bullied by another camper. His coach hates his guts in the beginning.
If you love sports and action you’ll love this book and so I recommend it. This book is a page turner because after every page you’ll be asking yourself what will happen next. I think sports fans would like Summer Ball. Because there is one sports event after another. You will not be able to put it down because of the action. Every chapter ends with a cliff hanger. For example, at the end of chapter 10. Danny is faced with a decision to quit playing basketball and start playing soccer or to still play basketball and prove his coach wrong and that he is a good at basketball not soccer. I’ll let you find out the rest.

  10. Go Ask Alice by Anonymous

    15-Year-Old Drug Addict

Go Ask Alice is a true story about a 15-year-old girl who writes in her diary. Soon after you start reading this autobiography you find out she gets addicted to drugs. She starts a whole bunch of different drugs and gets addicted to all of them. She does a lot of things with a lot of different people without her parents knowing. Will she ever get off drugs? Will she ever get her life together before it’s too late? You’ll have to read the book to figure that out.
This is an intense book, and I would suggest it to people who are into books like this one. It has a lot of cussing. Alice runs away a few times and does bad things, such as going to people’s houses that she doesn’t know, and getting high. She ends up getting raped and goes back home. I personally liked it because it was a serious page turner. It doesn’t take long to get into the character and it feels like you’re in the situation yourself. It was a very good book, and I would definitely read it again sometime in the future, just to go back and see if I missed anything good.

  11. Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie by Jordan Sonnenblick

    Cancer Is Cruel

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to have a family member diagnosed with cancer? Well, in this realistic-fiction book, Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie and eighth-grader named Stephen has to live with all the drama in eighth grade and has a hard time when his five-year-old brother, Jeffery is diagnosed with leukemia. With all the stress of homework, band practices, and trying impress the girl of his dreams Stephen also feels guilty for not hanging out with his brother. The author truly does a great job of explaining how Stephen feels.
Jordan Sonnenblick did an excellent job with this page-turning book. It takes you on a roller coaster ride with all the ups, downs, and twists life throws at Stephen. Between having his brother diagnosed with leukemia to hanging out with the girl of his dreams this book does an excellent job of opening you eyes to what it’s like living in those conditions. I enjoyed reading this realistic-fiction novel because I could actually imagine the story happening, and when writers use this kind of writing, it’s easier for me to understand. If you like a good realistic-fiction book with tons of twists and turns, then Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie is for you.

  12. Hatchet by Gary Paulsen
    Lost
The novel Hatchet by Gary Paulsen is a great survival story about a boy named Brian. He goes north to visit his father, but his pilot suffers a heart attack and Brian crash-lands the plane in a lake. Brian swims out into the wilderness. He must survive in nature alone.
Gary Paulsen uses great metaphors and details to bring the story to life, like the plane crash, hunting, and making a fire. He describes every moment well enough to make you feel like you are actually there.
However, I found the ending very quick. It all happens in two pages.
Overall, this novel was a great read and I would recommend it to any reader.

  13. Schooled by Gordon Korman

    Got Peace?

“He was arresting me for driving without a license. At the time, I didn’t even know what a license was. I wasn’t too clear on what being arrested meant either.” Schooled is a realistic fiction book about Cap, a boy who is stuck in the eighties. He lives on Garland Farm, a farm commune, with only his grandmother, Rain, until she falls out of a tree picking plums. She needs to stay at the hospital, so Cap is forced to move in with a guidance counselor and go to a local middle school. At Claverage Middle School (aka C Average Middle School) there’s a tradition to nominate the biggest nerd for class president, and Cap wins. Will he be the best class president ever, or end up like all of the other nerds?
This is one of my favorite books because Cap is very smart, but is clueless on how to be an average kid. I love the author’s style of writing because each chapter is told by someone else’s prospective. This helps you really connect with the characters because you know what they’re thinking, too. Cap will learn a lot about life in the real world, but many people will also learn from him, including you. I think people of all ages will love this book, but especially fifth to eighth graders.

  14. Loser by Jerry Spinelli
    Loser Keeps Losing

What is it like to be the kid who doesn’t fit in? Zinkoff knows. He goes through his life from kindergarten up to 7th grade, being branded a loser early on. He doesn’t really care that he is branded a loser. Interestingly enough, he still tries to fit in with the cooler kids, which just gets him picked on even more.

I found this book bland and uninteresting. The storyline was hard to follow, and it seemed to not make sense. You can’t connect it to anyone or any other book. It seems like the author just wrote this to make a quick buck.

This book isn’t worthy to recommend to anyone. It’s not exciting, it’s hard to focus on, and your mind tends to wander while reading it. The rising action has nothing exciting, and the climax is boring. The falling action is far from different. I recommend the author make serious revisions to this book to make it more interesting and exciting. Give the climax more support, and give more detail in the rising action.

  15. The book that I like is called The Princess Diaries 1; the author of this book is by Meg Cabot. The story is about a girl named Mia Thermopolis who finds out that she is a princess because her grandmother from Genovia is the queen and it is Mia’s turn to have the Throne. But Mia does not like it and does not believe her grandma and mom that she is a princess. She was getting a makeover from her stylist Palo and that’s how people knew that Mia is the princess of genovia. Then it became trouble when she went to go to school there was the Paparazzi, News and all other people came to her school. She did tell her best friend Lilly. If you want to know what happens next then I prefer that you should read it because it is a really good story it is stories that just don’t fit.

  16. The book The Steps is a very good book. It is by Rachel Cohn. The Steps is about a girl named Annabel; Her mom and she live in Manhattan, New York. Her mom has a boyfriend, and she has a lot more stepsisters and brothers and also a lot of half sisters and brothers. She is running for class president at her school. Then she is going to visit her dad and his new family in Australia on Christmas break. When she gets there, she hates it. Her dad has two other children. She does not like them at all. If you read The Steps and you like it, there is another book to the series called Two Steps Forward.

  17. I read the book No Small by Natale, Ghent! The reason why I am blogging about this book is because a single mom is struggling raising her three kids and they are very poor. However, the middle son has a job; he is a paper boy. One day he picks up a paper from the store, and there is an ad for a horse to a good home. He knows that there are a lot of responsibilities if you get a horse. So will he take good care of it or will he just let it roam free? You will have to find out in the book; get it in your local library today.

  18. Rules By Cynthia Lord You should defiantly read rules. It is a really good book. It talks about a girl that makes up rules for her and her brother. The reason you should read it because it’s a really a very good book. What I liked about it is that Catherine has to go to her brothers, therapy, and she meets this guy named Jason .He is in therapy to, and he is in a wheel chair and can’t talk. So he has to use a special book for him to us. What she does is she goes over to him and talks to him, and they became friends. One day Jason was at therapy. Catherine saw Jason’s mom and ask her if she could make some cards for Jason, and she said yes. So Catherine did, and that’s why you should read rules.

  19. Define Normal Julie Anne Peters is a good book if you like realistic fiction. The book is very serious; my favorite person is Jazz (Jasmine). She comes off strong, but she’s really smart and talented. At the end she’s not at all what you think. My favorite part is when Antonia went to Jazz’s house and she figures out that she is really rich and gets really jealous. It’s a really good book I would definitely recommend it.

  20. Snap a by Alison McGhee

All Savvy wants to do is play competitve basketball. She is so determined to play; she decided to try out for the 18u team named Fire. This is an awesome book to read because it involves sports, individual challanges, and even romance. Boost is a page turner. If i enjoyed it; i’m sure you will too.

  22. Spilled Water by Sally Grindley

I read Spilled Water, and it was a wonderful book. The main character, Lu Si- yan, has a lot of problems in her life. Her father dies and her mom can’t come up with enough money to pay for their farm, so her uncle helps. He taks Lu Si- yan to the market and sells her. She was a servant; then she worked in a factory. Lu Si- yan tries to get home to her mother and her baby brother.
My favorite part was when Lu Si- yan started work at the factory. I like this part because she doesn’t know anyone there, but she makes friends right away. I don’t like Lu Si- yan’s uncle. I don’t like him because he wasn’t nice to her and he sold her. I liked the book in general because it tells the story of a girl’s life in China and what may happen to some of the young girls.

  23. Shark Girl By Kelly Bingham,
i read this book for a class assignment. It is very hare for me to get into a book ,but this book kept me wanting more from start to finish. It’s about a 15 year old girl who gets attacked by a shark and has to have her arm amputayed.
